Metalizing Gun

The metalizing process uses corrosion-resistant coatings such as aluminum and zinc are applied to ship hulls, bridges, storage tanks, and canal gates, for example. Hard-facing is applied to shafting, gear teeth, and other machine components, as well as to mining equipment, ore chutes, hoppers, tracks, and rails. Coatings with combined bearing and lubricity properties are used to improve the surface life of machine shafting, slides, and ways.

Metalizing Gun

The Metalizing Gun system uses a combustible gas mixed with oxygen to create a flame outside of the spray gun of approximately 5400° F. This is the heat source to melt the metal to be sprayed. The material to be sprayed is in the form of a wire that falls into the center of the flame where it is melted. In a metalizing gun, an airflow meter designed to control the airflow to the WireJet Series of guns. Air Trio is designed for the Wire Jet series gun, it has a particle filter, water trap, and air pressure regulator built within one unit. There is another quick disconnect for cooling air jets or other auxiliary compressed air requirements. Our wire stand runs both 1/8 inch and 3/16 inch open coils of wire decreasing the need for spools. It has a built-in wire straightener that permits stable wire feed into the WireJet.

Types of Metalizing gun

  • Electric arc spraying (EASP).
  • Flame spraying.

Electric arc spraying (EASP)

  • The welding current ranges from 300 to 500 amperes direct current with the voltage ranging from 25 to 35 volts. This system will deposit from 15 to 100 lb/hr of metal. The amount of metal deposited depends on the current level and the type of metal being sprayed. Wires for spraying are sized according to the Brown and Sharp wire gauge system. Normally either 14 gauge (0.064 in. or 1.626 mm) or 11 gauge (0.091 in. or 2.311 mm) is used. Larger diameter wires can be used.
  •  A pressure of 80 psi (552 kPa) and from 30 to 80 cu ft/min (0.85 to 2.27 cu m/min) is used. Almost any metal that can be drawn into a wire can be sprayed.

Flame spraying

  • Flame spraying is a thermal spraying process that uses an oxyfuel gas flame as a source of heat for melting the coating material. Compressed air is usually used for atomizing and propelling the material to the workpiece. There are two varieties: one uses metal in wire form and the other uses materials in powder form. The process of flame spraying which uses powder is sometimes known as powder flame spraying. The process of flame spraying using wire is known as metalizing or wire flame spraying.
  • Atomizing, if required, is done by an air jet that propels the atomized particles to the workpiece. When powdered materials are used, they may be fed by gravity from a sand blasting hopper which is a part of the gun.
